Mike Espejo

Mike is a proud graduate of Oakland University’s Journalism department.  He currently works as the Coordinator of Community Promotion at the City of Auburn Hills, where he oversees media and public relations with all departments of the city. He’s also a freelance writer for Metro Parent Magazine.

Before entering the local government world, he worked at the Oakland Post- OU’s Independent Student Newspaper – covering local, national and campus news. He also interned for the OU News Bureau (a news blog that covers campus and tri-county news) creating print and multimedia stories for the web.  He took a key role in establishing the OU chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists during his senior year. After graduating, he worked as an editorial intern during the fall of 2012 at Metro Parent Publishing in Ferndale, MI.

At the 2012 SPJ Region 4 Conference he spoke on a panel (center, pictured) that discussed how college-level and professional news outlets can use social media/networking tools to establish relationships with their audiences and distribute their product.

He is a food enthusiast and co-writes a Michigan restaurant blog called “If You Seek a Pleasant Meal…” with his lady friend, Ashton. He enjoys reading histories, long-distance running (he keeps a blog on this subject), editing film projects and playing his guitar- a prized 1963 Gretsch Anniversary.
